One of our most recent and exciting projects has been supporting the launch of Courtside Pickleball, a brand-new sports venue bringing one of the UK’s fastest-growing activities to the local community.

Supporting a Growing Community Sports Venue

Pickleball may have originated in the 1960s, but in recent years it has experienced a surge in popularity across the UK. Combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, it’s a sport that’s easy to learn, highly social, and suitable for all ages and ability levels. As interest continues to grow, venues like Courtside Pickleball play a vital role in making the sport accessible to local communities.

Courtside Pickleball is located in Stourbridge, offering a modern, welcoming space for casual players, competitive matches, coaching sessions, and community events. When planning their launch, the Courtside team recognised that a strong, secure IT infrastructure would be essential to support both day-to-day operations and future expansion.

Launch Day Success in Stourbridge

Saturday 17th January marked Courtside Pickleball’s official launch day—and it was a huge success. The venue welcomed a fantastic turnout from the local community, alongside the Mayor of Dudley, who helped celebrate the opening.

From the energy on the courts to the positive feedback from visitors, it was clear from day one that Courtside Pickleball had already established itself as a valuable local asset. For anyone looking to try pickleball for the first time—or find a new regular sporting venue—Courtside Pickleball is well worth a visit.

Understanding the Technology Requirements

Ahead of their opening, Courtside Pickleball approached ICM with a clear set of requirements:

• Reliable, high-performance Wi-Fi coverage throughout the venue
• Secure network infrastructure to protect internal systems and data
• Fast and stable internet connectivity
• Technology to support digital scoring, coaching, and match recording
• A solution that could scale as the venue and customer base grow

Sports and leisure facilities place unique demands on IT systems. From handling multiple simultaneous users to supporting digital displays and video systems, reliability and security are critical. Our role was to design a solution that met these needs without adding unnecessary complexity.

To ensure seamless wireless coverage, we deployed enterprise-grade networking equipment from Ubiquiti. This provided consistent, high-speed Wi-Fi across all areas of the facility, supporting staff operations, guest access, and connected court technology.

Advanced Network Security & Firewall Protection

Security was a key consideration for Courtside Pickleball. To protect the internal network and connected systems, we implemented a robust firewall solution using WatchGuard technology. This ensures advanced threat protection, network visibility, and peace of mind—allowing the team to focus on running the venue, not managing cyber risks.
